We think every DAY should be “Mother’s Day” but for over 100 years we have been officially celebrating moms on the second Sunday in May.

The Coronavirus has caused cities and states around the United States to take a look at many different types of businesses and places and determine what may be essential. While some cities have stated playgrounds and parks are essential, others have stated they should not be considered as such.

Fortunately, most cities and counties are changing their stance, with many recognizing the benefits of playgrounds, and in turn, deeming them essential. Here are three key reasons why playgrounds are essential. 

Some dog lovers might argue that all you need for a good dog park is dogs. No one would argue. However, you can always make things more fun at your own dog park. Whether you run a local community dog park, or you are adding some special features to your backyard dog park, there are several ways to add joy to your canine oasis.  

Normally when the days get longer and the weather becomes nicer, you'll see kids flocking to the playgrounds, basketball courts, soccer fields and more to enjoy time outdoors. Then, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and playgrounds across the country were shuttered in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. Now that the country is opening back up, so too are playgrounds - and that's a good thing.

We all want to teach our children how to make the world a better place. In most cases, this starts with small ideas that make a huge difference. In fact, it is always a great idea to show our little ones that it doesn’t take a huge amount of money or a ton of skill to really brighten someone’s world. Have you ever traveled through a neighborhood and found an outdoor fair, block party or local festival? The sights and sounds feel welcoming to both the residents, tourists and people who are simply passing by. Such events and recreations do more than just allow people to sell food and products. They allow neighbors to build relationships and provide a venue where everyone can come together to enjoy new arts, culture and entertainment.

Put down the screens!

In this day and age of Facebook, screen time and YouTube videos, real “face time” can get lost in the shuffle. And that’s too bad. Because growing children need time with other people to learn how to socialize and how to interact. They need time away from their screens so their growing minds and bodies can develop.

Christmas is officially upon us! It’s the season of peace, love and joy — but sometimes we tend to forget that and focus on the material things. This Christmas season, try to focus more on the spirit of Christmas by enjoying time with your family and making memories that will last a lifetime.
